Westminster edged at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa.--The Westminster women's basketball team suffered a 72-66 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss at longtime rival Geneva Saturday afternoon inside Metheny Fieldhouse. 

Westminster fell to 9-16 overall with Saturday's setback and wrapped up its regular season league schedule with a 6-10 record.

Sophomore Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) led four players in double figures, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds. Junior Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) had 13 points and four rebounds while sophomore Katie Grexa (Hartford, Ohio, Badger) added 12 points and five rebounds and sophomore Katie Maryo (Cleveland, Ohio, Magnificat) chipped in with 12 points and four boards. 

Geneva's Emily Garvin finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. 

With Westminster down eight, 40-32, at the half, Geneva ran its third quarter lead to as many as 15 before the Titans closed out the quarter riding an 11-5 run and cut the deficit to five, 54-49, going into the fourth. An 8-1 run, capped by a Cano layup with just over two minutes left in regulation, gave the Titans a 66-65 lead, their first since midway through the second. Geneva outscored Westminster 7-0 over the final two-plus minutes to secure the six-point win in the regular season finale. 

Up next:
The No. 4 seed in the PAC's North Division, Westminster will travel to Saint Vincent (19-6, 14-2 PAC), the top seed in the PAC's South Division, Tuesday to open this year's PAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal round. Tipoff time will be announced Saturday evening.
