Baseball: Titans Win, 14-10, Over Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team won, 14-10, in a home nine-inning game against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Geneva College on Wednesday.
 
Titan senior Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) went 4-for-4 with a game-high five RBIs, to go along with three runs scored. Coyne registered two doubles and a home run. Junior Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union) went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while tallying a double and a triple, and earned a game-high four runs scored.
 
Westminster (10-19, 7-11 PAC) led 8-0 after three innings; the Titans scored three runs in the first after Coyne connected on a three-run home run, his second homer on the year. Westminster added five more runs in the third inning; junior Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) and freshman Connor Cox (Ridge, MD / Leonardtown) each earned an RBI, while sophomore Michael Douds (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep) registered a two-run double. Geneva (8-26, 2-18 PAC) got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning after Forrest Beighley hit an RBI-single. The Golden Tornadoes tallied two more runs in the fifth inning, cutting Westminster's lead to 8-3. Coyne added two more RBIs with a two-run single in the sixth, putting the Titans' in front 10-3. Geneva rallied in the seventh with six runs, coming within one run from tying the game, 10-9. Salmen added insurance for Westminster in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run triple and the Titans led 13-9, marking his first triple of the season and fourth of his career. Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning.      
 
Westminster outhit Geneva, 13-11. Titan sophomore pitcher Cody Acon (Industry, PA / Western Beaver) (1-3) threw 6.0 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits. Freshman reliever Emilio Rivera (Tampa, FL / Armwood) threw a hitless ninth inning, while earning a strike out, to seal the Titan win.
 
The Titans will next play a home doubleheader on Friday, April 28 against Thomas More College. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
