Swimming & Diving: Titans Sweep PAC Foe Washington & Jefferson, Men’s Team Wins 400th

FINAL RESULTS

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet at home on Wednesday.

The win marked the 400th for the men's team in program history.

The Titan men's team (5-0, 2-0 PAC) won 202-95, while the Titan women's team (4-1, 2-0 PAC) won 179-114. W&J's men's team dropped to 3-3 overall and, 1-1 in the PAC, while W&J's women's team fell to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Westminster won a total of 24 events (13 for the men's team and 11 for the women's).

Sophomore Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) led the men's team with three wins in individual events (1,000 freestyle/10:32.75, 100 freestyle/48.20, and 200 IM/2:01.56) and was the last leg of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:38.18). Completing the foursome were senior Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), senior Matt Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), and sophomore Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin).

Baurle also swept the breaststrokes as he won the 100 (1:01.33) and the 200 (2:16.66). Kolesar additionally won the 200 butterfly (2:07.45), while Karper won the 100 backstroke (54.02). 

Freshman Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) won the 50 freestyle (22.35), the 100 butterfly (55.72), and was the final leg of the 400 freestyle relay that won with a time of 3:22.37. Completing the quartet were freshman David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside), senior Max Hague (Canton, OH / Glenoak), and freshman Griffin Nincke (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley). Peffer also won the 200 freestyle (1:50.63), while Nincke touched first in the 500 freestyle (5:09.16).   

For the women's team, junior Sam Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional) and sophomore Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) each won three individual events and were part of a winning relay. Tower won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.16), the 200 breaststroke (2:34.98), and the 200 IM (2:19.86), while Douds won the 50 freestyle (25.72), the 100 freestyle (56.72), and the 100 butterfly (1:01.63). They also were part of the winning 200 medley relay team, which won with a time of 1:55.81. Rounding out the quartet were first-year Katarina Braun (Butler, PA / Homeschooled) and Meghan Long (Fairport, NY / Fairport).

Junior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) won the 1,000 freestyle (11:04.86), the 200 freestyle (2:01.51), and the 500 freestyle (5:29.46).

First-year Savannah Sutherland (Tallahassee, FL / Chiles) also won the 200 butterfly (2:20.40).    

Westminster will next host Chatham University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
