Men’s Basketball: Bethany Tops Westminster in PAC Matchup

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost 86-79 to Bethany College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown at home Wednesday.

Westminster (3-12, 0-6 PAC) was up 19-18 with 6:44 remaining in the first half after a layup by junior Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin). Bethany (7-8, 2-4 PAC), however, outscored the Titans 17-5 for the remainder of the half to take a 36-23 lead at halftime.

The Bison maintained their double-digit lead in the beginning of the second half and led by as much as 19 points (49-30) with 14:03 remaining on the clock. Westminster kept battling and orchestrated a 27-8 run and tied the game, 57-57, after Wallander found freshman Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) for a three-point field goal.

Bethany regained the lead and did not look back. Westminster did get within three points, 74-71, of the Bison's lead with 1:26 remaining, but could not get back on top.

Titan sophomore Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) scored a team-high 16 points. Three other Titan players registered double-digit points, including Wallander (14), Domenick (14), and sophomore Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) (10). Wallander also led on the glass with eight rebounds. Domenick dished-out a game-high eight assists. Sophomore Garrett Ashbaugh (Mars, PA / Mars) pocketed a game-high four steals.

Bethany out-shot Westminster 47.1% (24-51) to 42.2% (27-64) and out-rebounded the Titans 43-31.

Westminster will play in its third-straight home game Saturday as it hosts Geneva College at 7:30 p.m.
