GREENVILLE, Pa. - In a game where there were eight lead changes, the Westminster College women's basketball team lost 66-61 in overtime at Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday.
Down 53-50 with four seconds left in regulation, the Titans (1-11, 0-5) tied the game and forced overtime after sophomore Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) found senior Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) for a three-pointer. Westminster went ahead in extra minutes after another three-point shot by Grandy with 4:26 on the clock. Thiel (3-9, 2-4) took the lead after back-to-back threes and never looked back.
Grandy led the Titan offense with a career-high 20 points, including a team-best four three-pointers. Classmate Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) scored 18 points, while notching a double-double as she had a game-high 12 rebounds. First-year Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) added seven boards.
Thiel was up 30-21 with 2:08 remaining in the first half, however Westminster outscored the Tomcats 9-0 for the remainder of the frame to tie it 30-30 at halftime.
The Tomcats led 47-43 after a three-point field goal with 4:57 remaining in regulation. Westminster responded with a 6-0 run, capped off with a jumper by Borts to regain the lead, 49-47, with 3:20 on the clock.
Thiel out-shot Westminster 37.0% (20-54) to 32.0% (24-75) and held a slight 51-46 rebound-edge.
The Titans enter a three-game home stretch next week, beginning with Waynesburg University on Monday at 6 p.m.
