Men’s Basketball: Marietta Hands Westminster Non-Conference Loss

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 87-69, to the visiting Pioneers of Marietta College inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium on Saturday.

Titan freshman Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) scored a team-high 17 points, while classmate Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) registered 15 points. Also scoring in double-digits for the Titans were sophomore Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) and junior Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Scott also led Westminster with nine rebounds.

Marietta (5-0) led the entire first half, including its lead largest of 15 points (45-30) with 1:48 remaining. The Pioneers went into halftime up 45-33.

Westminster (2-4) cut Marietta's lead to 57-48 after a layup by sophomore Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) with 13:21 remaining in the game. The Pioneers, however, regained their double-digit lead with a three-pointer at the 12:50 mark and maintained it for the remainder of the game.

The Titans out-shot Marietta 47.2% (25-53) to 43.0% (34-79). The Pioneers led behind the arc with 10 three-pointers, compared to Westminster's five. Marietta also led on the glass with a 43-33 rebound edge.

Westminster is back in action Monday, December 1, when it travels to Penn. State-Altoona. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
