Titans End Two-Game Skid With 61-53 Win Over Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team ended a two-game skid tonight with a 61-53 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City College. The Titans improved to 2-9 overall and 2-3 in the PAC, while the Wolverines dropped to 2-10 and 1-4 against league foes.

Down 13-4 with 10:38 left in the first half, the Titans mustered a 15-6 run to tie the game at 19 with 3:24 on the clock. Freshman forward Courtney Klein (York, Pa./Red Lion) scored the tying points off a layup, while classmate Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) earned the assist.

After a Wolverines turnover, Westminster took its first lead at 20-19 after senior forward Emily Dolsask (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) split a pair of free throws and led 26-25 at intermission.

Westminster regained the lead for good (30-29) at the 17:09 mark following a layup from junior forward Katie Hughes (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) with an assist from junior point guard Jenn Cantella (Freedom, Pa./Freedom).

Hughes led the Titans offense with a career-high 20 points on 9-for-13 shooting in 30 minutes of play. Sophomore guard Courtney Zitt (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) followed with a 18-point performance. Junior point guard Danille Gilmore (Washington, Pa./Trinity) added eight points.

Zitt grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Westminster. Dolsak, senior guard Emily Montone (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville), Hughes, and Grandy each added five rebounds.

For Grove City, Leah Gibson had 18 points and Megan Gebrosky added 14 points. Kelsey Shirey had seven rebounds.

For the game, Westminster outshot Grove City 43.9% (25-for-57) to 34.5% (20-for-58). The Titans also had a 42-35 rebound advantage.

The Titans are back in action Saturday (Jan. 7) as they travel to Thomas More for a 1 p.m. matchup.
