Women's Basketball: Thiel Outlasts Westminster in Overtime

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost in overtime to visiting Thiel, 57-52, Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action. No team led by more than six points during the entire game.

Westminster falls to 0-7 on the year and 0-3 in the PAC, while Thiel improves to 2-6 overall and 2-1 in PAC play.

Junior forward Katie Hughes (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) and sophomore guard Courtney Zitt (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) both posted double-doubles for Westminster, each with their second double-doubles in three games. Hughes led the Titans with season highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Zitt scored 13 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Zitt's layup with 4:25 left in regulation gave Westminster its largest lead of the game at six points (43-37), but Thiel outscored the Titans 9-3 in the final 3:46 of the second half.

Thiel scored first in overtime and never trailed. The Tomcats took their largest lead of the game with 1:49 left in overtime at 54-48 when Kelly Muffley drained a 3-pointer.

Muffley led all scorers with 23 points on 8-15 shooting from the floor including 3-4 from 3-point range. Muffley also handed out a game-high five assists.

Other notables for both teams included Thiel's Ashley Davis posting a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Westminster senior guard Emily Montone (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) set career highs with four assists and seven rebounds to go with seven points.

Westminster travels to Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 2 p.m.
