ALLIANCE, Ohio - After two overtimes and 110 minutes of play, the Westminster College men's soccer team tied Mount Union, 1-1, on the road Wednesday night in nonconference action. The Titans are now 1-1-2 this season and the Purple Raiders are 1-2-1.

Westminster played with a 1-0 lead for most of regulation after junior forward Coty Hainsey (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) scored his first goal of the season 1:42 into the game on a header inside the far post after a throw-in. Junior defender Jake Huey (Butler, Pa./Butler) assisted on the goal for his first point of the season.

Mount Union tied the game in the 71st minute when Joey Merlo beat Westminster senior goalkeeper Lance Leathers (Pleasant Gap, Pa./Bellefonte) on an assist from Leo Hicks. The goal was Merlo's third of the season.

Leathers made five saves in 110 minutes. Jonathan Critell made four stops for Mount Union.

Mount Union outshot the Titans 20-15.

Westminster returns to action when it hosts its first home game of the season Saturday against Carnegie Mellon for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
