Westminster drops home match to Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster men's soccer team fell to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Saint Vincent 4-0 Tuesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Saint Vincent improved to 6-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the PAC. Westminster is now 5-5-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play.

The Titans generated early pressure with a corner and shots by junior Trent Davey (Butler, Pa., Slippery Rock) and freshman Owen Householder (Clairton, Pa., Thomas Jefferson), but the Bearcats scored three times in an 18-plus minute span to go into halftime leading 3-0. Oziel Bonola-Soriano (6:20), Seamus Ballesteros (11:43) and Bruno Hurtado (24:34) had first half goals for Saint Vincent. Cameron Mulvanny assisted on the Bonola-Soriano goal.

Saint Vincent upped its lead to 4-0 in the 63rd minute on Nick Johnson's goal. Freshman Mason Smith (New Castle, Pa., Neshannock), making his first collegiate start, made saves on shots by Hurtado and Daniel Maddock during the next stretch, and the Titans answered late with five shots and a corner after the 81st minute.

Freshman Kohen Salazar (San Angelo, Texas, Rockwall) led the Titans with four shots, putting a pair on goal. Smith played all 90 minutes and had three saves.

The Bearcats held a 28-13 advantage in total shots, and put seven on goal compared to the Titans' five. Saint Vincent finished with a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
