BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team completed a season sweep of Geneva with a 72-69 win on the road Wednesday night. The Titans improve to 10-14 overall on the season as eight of their 10 wins have come in season sweeps of four opponents with Thiel, Chatham and Bethany being the others. Geneva falls to 8-16 on the season.
Senior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) led the Titans with a game high-tying 23 points, marking the sixth time this season that she bucketed 20 or more points in a game.
Sophomore forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) and junior point guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) each scored 11 points with Emily Dolsak pulling down a game high-tying eight rebounds. Freshman forward Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) also tossed in eight points to go with seven rebounds.
Renee Rawding led Geneva with 23 points, followed by Beth DeLuca coming off the bench and scoring 10 points.
DeLuca drained a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining that cut Westminster's lead to just one point. After Amy Dolsak knocked down a pair of free throws, Geneva inbounded the ball and heaved a half-court shot from the left side at the buzzer that banked off the backboard.
Geneva nearly came back from a 14-point deficit as Westminster held its largest lead of the game with a 54-40 lead with 8:20 remaining. The Titans either led or tied the entire game. They led by as many as eight points in the first half before leading 34-30 at halftime.
Westminster shot 40.7 percent (24-59) from the floor compared to Geneva at 36.7 percent (22-60). The Titans held a 44-36 rebound advantage.
The Titans host Grove City Saturday at 2 p.m.
