Women's Basketball: Westminster Opens Season with Decisive Loss at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Westminster College women's basketball team opened its season with a 77-42 loss at Mount Union Monday in nonconference action. The Titans are 0-1 and the Purple Raiders are 1-0.

The Titans shot just 26.2 percent (16-60) from the floor compared to Mount Union which shot 47.4 percent (27-57).

Junior forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) led the Titans with 10 points to go with seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) posted a team-high nine rebounds to go with four points, while freshman guard Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, Pa./Apollo-Ridge) bucketed nine points all on 3-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.

Mount Union had four players score in double figures led by Rosa LaMattina with 18 points to go with a team-high five rebounds. Brittany Kilgore also sank 15 points.

The Purple Raiders established a 20-point lead (29-9) just 13 and a half minutes into the game and led by as many as 25 points (38-14) in the first half before leading 40-20 at halftime.

Mount Union led by no fewer than 18 points in the second half and by as many as 39 points before coming away with the 35-point win.

Westminster plays at the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament this weekend beginning with Otterbein Saturday at 8 p.m.
