Men's Basketball: Titans' Second-Half Surge Helps Notch First PAC Win

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team won its second straight game and its first in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play with a 68-55 win at Waynesburg Tuesday night.

The Titans are now 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the PAC. Waynesburg is 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Senior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) led the Titans with game-high totals of 23 points and eight rebounds. Murray, who was coming off a career-high 36 points at Caltech on Sunday, was held scoreless vs. Waynesburg in the first half, during which he played just five minutes after committing two fouls.

Despite Murray's lack of first-half scoring, the Titans were tied with Waynesburg at halftime, 29-29. The Yellow Jackets took a seven-point, 46-39 lead with 11:28 left. Westminster then went on a 23-7 run to take the lead, 53-51, at the 5:38 mark, and eventually go up by as many as nine points at 62-53 with 2:10 left in the game.

Senior forward Steve Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was the game's only other player to score in double figures as he came off the bench to score 11 points for Westminster.

Ben Altmeyer and Erik Noone led the Yellow Jackets with eight points apiece.

The Titans outshot the Yellow Jackets, 46.7 percent (21-45) to 33.9 percent (19-56).

Westminster travels to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
