Women's Basketball: Brunetti's Season High Leads Titans Over Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Senior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) played her final home game as a member of the Westminster College women's basketball player and scored a season-high 22 points in the Titans' 64-56 win over Geneva on Saturday.

The Titans finish the regular season with an 8-16 record and will travel to Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a first-round game in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament. Geneva finishes its season with a 9-15 record.

Freshman forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) scored a career-high 18 points for a second straight game for Westminster. She also tied two other teammates with a team-high five rebounds.

Other notables for Westminster included junior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) sinking nine points to go with team highs of five rebounds and six assists. Sophomore point guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) also dished out a game-high six assists to go with two points, three steals and four rebounds.

Forward Katherine Khattab (Bixby, Okla./Bixby), Westminster's other senior playing in her final home game, scored six points on 3-3 shooting.

Valerie Hamilton led the Golden Tornadoes with 16 points, followed by Rachel Barry with 13 points and Michawn Rich with 12 points.

Westminster won despite tying a season with 26 turnovers. Geneva committed 18 turnovers. The difference was Westminster shooting 51 percent (25-49) compared to Geneva's 27.9 percent (17-61). The Titans also shot 37.5 percent (6-16) from 3-point range compared to Geneva's 12.5 percent (3-24).

Westminster led by as many as 11 points in the first half before holding a 35-30 halftime lead. In the second half, the Titans would go back up by as many as 11 points before weathering a Geneva run that saw the Golden Tornadoes whittle the Titans' lead down to two points, 58-56 with 1:30 remaining. After Amy Dolsak sank a lay-up to put Westminster up by four points, Geneva committed a turnover on the ensuing possession with 46 seconds remaining. Geneva was forced to foul and Westminster came away with the win.
