Women's Basketball: Titans Drop Close Game at Home Against Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - For a second straight game, the Westminster College women's basketball team lost a game by two points as the Titans dropped a 62-60 decision at home against Saint Vincent on Saturday. The game did not count toward Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings because Saint Vincent is a Division III provisional member.

Saint Vincent (11-5) erased a six-point Westminster (6-10) lead with 8:33 remaining in the game before taking a permanent lead with 3:14 to go and holding off the Titans in the final seconds.

Westminster junior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) drained a 3-pointer to draw the Titans within one point with 1:04 on the clock, but Saint Vincent answered on its ensuing possession with a Maura Wahl 3-pointer to go back up by four.

Wahl sank two more foul shots with 15 seconds left to put Saint Vincent back up by four before Saint Vincent allowed Westminster senior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) to score a bucket with nine seconds left. Up by two, Saint Vincent avoided a foul and ran out the clock.

Brunetti led the Titans with 15 points on 5-16 shooting from the floor, after scoring just three points on 1-10 shooting in the first half. Freshman forward Emily Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) bucketed 13 points - 11 in the first half. Brunetti and Emily Dolsak led the Titans with eight rebounds apiece.

Other double-figure scorers for Westminster included sophomore guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) with 12 points to go with a team-high four assists, while Amy Dolsak scored 10 points despite foul trouble in the second half.

Four Saint Vincent players scored in double figures led by Wahl with a game-high 17 points, followed by Lauren Reilly with 16, Brittany Sedlock with 13 to go with her game-high 13 rebounds, and Emily Fenton with 11 points.

Westminster shot 35.6 percent (21-59) from the field, while Saint Vincent fired 33.8 percent (22-65). Westminster also held a 45-43 rebound advantage. The Titans committed 20 turnovers compared to SVC with 17.

The Titans travel to Grove City on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
