Women's Basketball: Titans Drop Sixth Straight with Loss at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost its sixth straight game Wednesday night, falling at Washington & Jefferson, 77-65, in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The Titans' record drops to 11-9 on the season and 5-5 in the PAC, while Presidents improve to 15-5 and 8-2 in league play.

Senior forward Terese Marszalek (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) led the Titans with 14 points and seven rebounds, followed by sophomore guard Jessica Mueseler (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) with a career-high 13 points, junior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) with 13 and senior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) with 12.

Marszalek scored in double figures for the sixth time this season and led the team in scoring for the fourth time. Mueseler shot 3-5 from 3-point range and surpassed her previous personal best of five points scored earlier this season. Ackerman's 12 points is her third-lowest of the season, including four points scored in an 80-49 loss vs. W&J on Jan. 5 when she left the game with an injury.

Stephanie Smith and Kennan Killeen led the Presidents with 17 points apiece.

After Mueseler hit a 3-pointer to cut the Presidents' lead to two points with 5:55 left in the first half, W&J went on a 14-4 run to take a 12-point, 35-23 lead at halftime.

Westminster chopped the W&J lead down to seven points (40-33) with 15:22 to go in the game. Three minutes later, the Presidents culminated an 11-2 run to go back up by 16 points (51-35).

The Titans drew within 10 points with two minutes remaining when Marszalek sank a jumper. Brunetti knocked down a 3-pointer drawing the Titans to within five (67-62) with 40 seconds remaining, but that was as close as Westminster could get.

Westminster travels to Waynesburg Saturday for a 5:30 tip-off.
