Women's Basketball: Titans Win Third Straight by Beating Thiel

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team won its third straight game Saturday afternoon with a 69-46 win at home against Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

Westminster improves its record to 14-9 and 7-6 for fourth place in the PAC. Thiel drops to 7-15 and 4-9 in the league.

Westminster senior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) scored a game-high 31 points, including 25 points in the second half alone. Her 31 points were two shy of tying a career high. Ackerman did, however, set a new career high with 13 rebounds.

Other notables for Westminster included senior forward Terese Marszalek (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) with 10 points, followed by junior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) and sophomore guard/forward Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) with eight apiece.

Kim Stitt led Thiel with 10 points.

The Titans shot 48.0 percent (24-50) compared to Thiel's 30.6 percent (19-62), while Westminster also out-rebounded the Tomcats, 43-29.

After leading 28-21 at halftime, Westminster then jumped to a 22-point, 48-26 lead with 13:43 remaining in the second half. The Titans would lead by as many as 27 points (66-39) with 4:13 to go in the game.

Westminster will host Bethany on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. for its last regular season home game of the season.
