Women's Basketball: Ackerman Scores Career High in Titans' Loss at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost 83-66 at Bethany Saturday in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

Senior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) scored a career-high 33 points and tied a season high with 12 rebounds to lead Westminster with her seventh double-double of the season. Ackerman shot 10-16 from the floor and 13-14 from the free-throw line.

Junior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) bucketed 13 points while senior forward Terese Marszalek (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) scored eight points and dished out a team-high five assists.

Kaityn McCormick led Bethany (9-6, 5-1 PAC) with 17 points, eight rebounds and eight steals as one of six Bison to score in double figures.

Bethany went on a 14-4 run to end the first half with a 38-28 lead. The Bison continued their run in the second half to take a 15-point, 46-31 advantage with 17 minutes left in the game.

A Brunetti 3-pointer that cut Bethany's lead to 10 points with 14:45 remaining was as close as the Titans would get as the Bison led by as many as 26 points before finishing with the 17-point win.

The Titans actually out-shot the Bison 46.0 percent (23-50) to 44.8 percent (30-67), but Westminster committed 26 turnovers (its second-high total of the season).

Westminster (11-4, 4-3 PAC) returns to action at home vs. Geneva on Wednesday, Jan. 23 for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
