Football: Titans Gut Out a 14-7 Homecoming Win over Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College football team gutted out a 14-7 Homecoming win over Grove City Saturday at Harold Burry Stadium in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The Titans (3-1, 1-0 PAC) have now won three of their first four games of the season for the first time since 2000. Grove City (1-4, 1-2 PAC) has not won at Westminster in 46 years as the Titans now own a 20-2-1 record over the Wolverines since 1961.

Westminster sophomore quarterback Kevin Franz (Finleyville, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) completed 19 of 26 passes for 188 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to senior Jason Discello (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) with 30 seconds left in the second quarter for the eventual game-winner.

Discello tied a career high with six receptions and set a new career high with 77 receiving yards. His 32-yard pass reception in the first quarter to the Grove City 1-yard line helped set up freshman Jacob Shaffer (Elmora, Pa./Cambria Heights) for a 1-yard touchdown run two plays later, giving the Titans a 7-0 lead with 4:46 left in the first quarter.

Grove City tied the game at the 10:39 mark of the second quarter when Matt Weil scored from 1 yard out culminating a nine-play, 72-yard touchdown march.

Westminster sophomore running back Nick McKolosky (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) rushed for over 100 yards for the second time in his career with 26 carries for 108 yards.

Grove City sophomore quarterback Andrew DiDonato led the Wolverines with 75 yards rushing on 17 attempts, to go with 135 yards on 19-of-36 passing.

The Titan defense, which entered the game ranked 10th in the nation giving up 187 yards per game, yielded 244 yards of offense (109 rushing), while the Westminster offense amassed 297 yards (also 109 rushing).

Junior linebacker Jordan Blinn (Industry, Pa./Western Beaver) led the Titans with eight tackles and a pass break-up. Junior linebacker Jake Martinez (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) also had seven stops including two for a loss of 6 yards.
