Scargle to join football staff

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College football program and head coach Scott Benzel have recently announced that John Scargle will join the Titans' staff this fall.

After spending over two decades coaching in Pinellas County on Florida's west-central coast, Scargle will coach cornerbacks at Westminster.

"We are extremely excited to have John join our defensive staff," said Benzel. "His years of experience working both as a college and high school coach will be invaluable to our team and players. John's connections to Florida also very important as we continue to recruit the talent-rich area for future Titans."

From 2022-24 Scargle served as the head coach at Hernando High School in Brooksville, Fla. He worked as the defensive coordinator at Countryside High School in 2021-22 after a two-year run as defensive coordinator at Clearwater High School from 2019-20. In 2018 Scargle worked as an assistant special teams and defensive backs coach at Division II St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. He spent the 2017 season as the head coach at Palm Harbor University High School after several successful stints as defensive coordinator at Clearwater Central Catholic High School (2002-08; 2010-17).

Scargle, a Yorba Linda, Calif. native and Esperanza High School graduate, started his collegiate career in North Orange County at Fullerton College before playing three seasons at the University of Central Florida as a defensive back. A graduate of UCF, Scargle owns a bachelor's degree in business administration and management.

"I am very excited to join Coach Benzel and his staff at Westminster College," said Scargle. "I am honored to have the opportunity to coach at a championship football tradition like Westminster and look forward to contributing to the success of the program as we work towards another PAC title."

Scargle and his wife Fanny have one daughter, Cristie, and two sons, Dilan and Nicolas.
