NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - After winning its first six games, the Westminster College women's basketball team lost its second straight game, losing at home to Allegheny, 65-60, Thursday night in non-conference action.
Senior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) led Westminster with a game-high 27 points on 9-14 shooting from the floor. Ackerman, who has scored 20 points or more in her last seven games, also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
After trailing 31-24 at halftime, Westminster (6-2) fell behind by as many as 11 points (35-24) with 16:21 remaining in the game. Less than seven minutes later, the Titans tied the game 43-43. Westminster then trailed by one point on four occasions down the stretch but could not grab the lead.
Down by three points with 38 seconds remaining, Ackerman missed a lay-up and the Gators were able to convert two Stephanie Wolf foul shots at the other end.
Westminster shot 42.9 percent (21-49) from the field compared to the Gators at 42.3 percent (22-52).
Wolf led the Gators (4-5) with 16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals.
The Titans have the week off before hosting Mount Union Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m.
