BETHANY, W.Va. - The Westminster College women's basketball team won its fourth game in a row and remains tied for first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) after posting a 73-47 road PAC win over Bethany Saturday at the Hummel Field House.
The Titans (12-4, 4-1 PAC) took a commanding 26-point, 34-8 lead 13 minutes into the game before clinging to a 38-23 halftime advantage. The 15-point deficit was as close as the Bison (6-10, 2-4 PAC) could get as Westminster would go up by as many as 32 points in the second half before securing the 26-point win.
Junior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) had a phenomenal game leading the Titans with 17 points and eight rebounds to go with a career-high nine assists and six steals.
Senior guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) scored 15 points to go with seven rebounds, while junior forward Terese Marszalek (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) netted 14 points, as did freshman center Rachel Martinko (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) for her new career high.
Sterling supplanted Erica Tallo (2001-05) for second place on Westminster's career scoring list breaking her mark of 1,227 points. Sterling now has 1,233 points and is 54 points shy of Robin Thayer's school-record 1,287 points amassed from 1998-2002.
Bethany's Renee Brandenburg led all scorers with 19 points. The Titans induced 26 Bethany turnovers and committed just 15. Westminster shot 48.5 percent (32-66) from the field compared to Bethany's 36 percent (18-50).
