Women's Basketball: Westminster Wins Third Straight By Outlasting Mount Union on the Road

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Westminster College women's basketball team won its third straight game Wednesday night with a 55-43 non-conference win at Mount Union.

Junior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) led the Titans (3-2) with a game-high 13 points, while reserve guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) scored 11 points.

The game was neck-and-neck for much of the first half until the Titans forged ahead in the second half. After the game's seventh tie score just over two minutes into the second half, Westminster went on a 12-0 run to take a 37-25 lead with 12:18 remaining in the game.

The Purple Raiders (3-2) would make a run by whittling the lead down to three points (46-43) with 3:25 remaining, but the Titans responded when Sterling sandwiched two field goals around an Ackerman lay-up which secured the lead for Westminster.

Westminster continued its strong defensive play as it limited Mount Union to a 29.3 shooting percentage (17-58) from the floor, while the Titans shot 41.1 percent (23-56).
