Piper, Anthony nab PAC weekly honors

TRAFFORD, Pa.--Westminster sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) and freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) landed Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball weekly honors Monday afternoon.  

Piper was named PAC Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season. Anthony claimed the PAC's Newcomer of the Week for the second time. 

Piper went 2-0 (3 appearances, 2 starts) with an 0.45 earned-run average (ERA) and a combined 28 strikeouts last week. She fired her first collegiate perfect game in Wednesday's 10-0, six-inning win at Thiel, striking out eight while facing the minimum on just 68 pitches. Piper threw 2.2 scoreless relief innings in the 4-3 game two setback, striking out five. She improved to 15-3 in the circle with the win in Saturday's 8-1 game one triumph of Waynesburg. Piper fanned a season-high 15 batters while allowing one run (earned) on three hits in the complete game victory. Her 154 strikeouts this season lead the PAC. 

Anthony hit .500 (7-14) with three RBIs and 10 runs scored last week for 5-1 Westminster. She finished the week with a .611 on-base percentage. Anthony was a combined 4-for-6 with two doubles and a triple in Wednesday's split at Thiel before going 2-for-5 in Saturday's sweep of Waynesburg. She has reached base safely in 12-straight games.

Westminster, the No. 1 seed in this week's PAC Championship Tournament, is scheduled to open its tournament run at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
