Game Recap: Softball |

Piper's perfect game highlights split at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster softball team secured a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) split Wednesday at Thiel, cruising to a 10-0 six-inning victory in game one before falling in game two, 4-3. Sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) fired her first collegiate perfect game in the game one triumph.

Westminster is now 25-9 overall and 17-3 in the league. The Titans' 10-game winning streak was snapped with the game two setback.

Game 1: Westminster 10, Thiel 0 (6 inn.)
Piper struck out eight batters and didn't issue a walk in the perfect game, facing the minimum on just 68 pitches. She has not given up a run in her last seven appearances (4 starts).

Westminster combined for 15 hits, including four extra-base hits, in the shutout.

Freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a walk to go along with four runs scored. Her eight triples lead the league this season. Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Game 2: Thiel 4, Westminster 3
Thiel jumped out to a 4-1 lead through four innings before Anthony's RBI double in the sixth cut the deficit to 4-2 and sophomore Sofia Ortiz's (Erie, Pa., Fairview) run-scoring base hit in the seventh trimmed the lead to 4-3.

O'Brien finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Senior Kelly Troup (Mogadore, Ohio, Field) went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Sam Levac (Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Garth Webb) was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.

Junior Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) fell to 9-5 with the loss, allowing three runs (3 earned) on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Piper threw 2.2 relief innings, striking out five.
