Westminster splits at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team secured a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) split Wednesday afternoon at Thiel, falling in game one 8-4 before winning 8-2 in the second game. 

Westminster is now 23-10 overall and 13-5 in the PAC. 

Game 1: Thiel 8, Westminster 4
Thiel jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first and two more in the fourth. Westminster cut the Thiel lead to 5-4 with a four-run seventh before the Tomcats plated an additional three runs in the bottom of the inning.  

Freshman Jacob Harrelson (Canal Fulton, Ohio, Green) suffered his first loss this season, falling to 5-1. He allowed five runs (2 earned) on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Freshman Nate Lemke (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) threw 3.0 relief innings and allowed three runs (3 earned) on four hits with a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Brandon Roher (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford) walked one batter in a scoreless eighth inning. 

Freshman Breckin Minich (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two walks. Freshman Devin Mila (Davie, Fla., NSU University) went 1-for-2 with one RBI, a run scored and one walk. Sophomore Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and two walks. 

Game 2: Westminster 8, Thiel 2
Tied 1-1 through six, Westminster's five-run seventh keyed its game two win. Sophomore Ian Temple (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) delivered a two-out, RBI double before Minich's two-run base hit.  

Temple went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. MInich was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. 

Junior Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) took the no-decision, allowing one run (earned) on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Sophomore Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) scored his fourth relief win of the year, allowing one run (unearned) on two hits with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings.  

Up next:
Westminster hosts Allegheny Saturday. The opening pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
