Game Recap: Baseball |

Westminster takes two against Allegheny

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team earned a pair of one-run wins against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Allegheny Saturday afternoon, using a two-run seventh inning to secure a 6-5 come-from-behind victory in game one before freshman Devin Mila's (Davie, Fla., University School) walkoff base hit delivered a 1-0 win in the nightcap.

Westminster improved to 25-10 overall and 15-5 in the PAC with Saturday's sweep. The 25 victories are the most in a season since 2012, when the Titans went 28-17 and won the program's second PAC title.

Game 1: Westminster 6, Allegheny 5
Down 5-4 midway through the seventh, junior Nate Demchak (Monroeville, Pa., Gateway) tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI base hit before Mila's run-scoring single gave the Titans a 6-5 lead.

Junior Conner Adams (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Demchak went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Breckin Minich (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) was 2-for-5.

Junior Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) went 5.0 innings in the no-decision, allowing five runs (5 earned) on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Sophomore Jack Strausser (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) earned the relief victory, throwing 4.0 scoreless relief innings. He fanned four in his third win out of the bullpen this year.

Game 2: Westminster 1, Allegheny 0
Scoreless midway through the ninth, Mila's two-out, full-count base hit to center scored Adams, who reached on double.

Four pitchers combined in the game two shutout. Senior Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) took the no-decision, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings. Freshman Nate Lemke (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) got the final two outs of the sixth before junior Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) allowed two hits and struck out a pair in the seventh and eighth innings. Sophomore Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) earned his fifth relief win of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

Freshman Grayson Eicher (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) went 2-for-4. It was his third two-hit game of the year.

Westminster steps out of league play Sunday at Mount Union (28-7). The first pitch of the single, nine-inning game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
