Westminster takes two against Allegheny

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster softball team registered a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep of visiting Allegheny Saturday, posting a 2-0 shutout in game one before scoring a 7-1 victory in game two. 

Now winners of seven straight, Westminster improved to 22-8 overall and 16-2 in the conference. 

Game 1: Westminster 2, Allegheny 0
Sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) fired her league-leading fifth shutout of the year, allowing four hits while striking out nine. 

Freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) had a run-scoring triple in the third to get Westminster on the board. Sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) followed sophomore Morgan O'Brien's (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) walk with an RBI single. 

Junior Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Game 2: Westminster 7, Allegheny 1
O'Brien went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Her .448 average ranks second in the league. O'Brien has 15 multi-hit games this year. Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. She has reached base safely in 28-straight games. Anthony went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. She has a PAC-high seven triples this year. Jordan was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Her 36 RBIs lead the league. 

Junior Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) took a no-decision after working 3.2 innings and allowing one run (earned) on two hits with three walks and a strikeout. Piper secured the relief victory after allowing one hit while fanning five in 3.1 innings. She improved to 13-3 this season. 

Up next:
Westminster is scheduled to host Carlow on Monday. The first pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is slated for 3:30 p.m.
