Westminster runner-up in spring invitational

NEW CASTLE, Pa.--The Westminster women's golf team posted a runner-up finish at its annual spring invitational Saturday afternoon.

The eight-team, 45-player event was hosted by the Avalon Field Club at New Castle. Washington & Jefferson won the team event with a score of 342. Westminster's 355 was good for second place. W&J's Megan Joyce was medalist with an 82.

Junior Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) was fourth with an 84 while sophomore Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) was fifth with an 85. Senior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) was 11th (92) and freshman CeCe Morgan (Fairview, Pa., Cathedral Prep) tied for 12th (94). Senior Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) finished 20th (100).

Westminster's 'B' team was seventh (435). Freshman Madey Myers (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) was 15th (96) and freshman Brooke Hart (Meadville, Pa., Meadville) tied for 17th (98). Freshman Paige Ponteous (Butler, Pa., Butler) tied for 21st (101) and senior Jessa Kinter (Ford City, Pa., Armstrong) was 43rd (140).

Up Next:
Westminster will participate in The Bedford Springs Invitational, presented by Lampire Biological Services, on Tuesday. The event, which is being hosted by Moravian, will be played at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. The round will get underway at 10 a.m.
