Titans drop a pair at Chatham

PITTSBURGH--The Westminster baseball team dropped a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games Saturday at Chatham, falling 6-1 in game one and 4-2 in game two. 

Westminster fell to 18-8 overall and 9-3 in the conference. It was the first time the team was swept this season. 

Game 1: Chatham 6, Westminster 1
The Cougars scored two runs in the second and another in the third to go up 3-0. Chatham tacked on three more in the eighth. Westminster's lone run came on sophomore Ian Temple (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) RBI single in the ninth. 

Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Junior Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) was 1-for-3 with a walk. 

Junior Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) took the loss, falling to 3-2 this season. He allowed six runs (6 earned) on nine hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings. 

Game 2: Chatham 4, Westminster 2
Westminster scored on back-to-back run-scoring singles by sophomore Jack Strausser (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) and junior Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) in the third to tie the game at 2-2. Chatham added runs in the seventh and eighth. 

Senior Jonathan Mollo (Germantown, N.Y., Germantown Central) suffered the loss in relief of senior Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk), allowing one run (unearned) on a hit with two walks and a strikeout in 2.0 innings. Reed went 4.0 innings in the no-decision and allowed two runs (2 earned) on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Sophomore Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) allowed one run (unearned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.0 innings. 

Zeigler went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. He is riding a 12-game hitting streak. 

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Waynesburg Tuesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
