Game Recap: Baseball |

Westminster wins twice at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa.--Behind a pair of terrific starts by freshman Jacob Harrelson (Canal Fulton, Ohio, Green) and junior Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry), the Westminster baseball team scored a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep Tuesday at Waynesburg, winning game one 11-0 before snagging a 6-1 weather-shortened victory in the nightcap.

Game two was called with one out in the top of the sixth due to severe weather in the Greene County area. Westminster ran its overall record to 20-8 overall and 11-3 in the conference.

Game 1: Westminster 11, Waynesburg 0
Westminster combined for 15 hits in the opener. Sophomore Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 3-for-5 with a double, five RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. It was his fifth game this season with three or more hits. Junior Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) was 3-for-4  with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Junior Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) led off the fifth with a home run. It was his second this spring.

Harrelson improved to 5-0 with the win. He allowed two hits, walked four and struck out four in 5.0 scoreless innings. Harrelson has won three of his last four starts. Freshman Nate Lemke (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) worked 4.0 scoreless relief innings, allowing one hits while fanning two.

Game 2: 6, Waynesburg 1 (5 inn., weather)
Albers allowed one run (earned) on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in 5.0 innings. It was his first victory since Westminster's 3-0 game two win against Grove City on March 24, when he fired a career-high 8.0 innings and fanned a career-high 10 batters while allowing six hits and walking two.

Rook went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Breckin Minich (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) hit a two-run single in the third.
