Westminster edged by Fredonia State

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse team lost 9-7 to visiting Fredonia State Wednesday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster's record fell 1-2 while Fredonia State improved to 3-0.

Tied 4-all at the half, the programs traded goals before Noelle Mendez's woman-up goal with just over a minute left in the third gave the Blue Devils a 7-6 lead heading into the fourth. Fredonia State rattled off three-straight goals before senior Haley Wenzel's (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) woman-up goal with 4:32 remaining.

Graduate student Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) had three goals and senior Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) totaled one goal, two assists, two ground balls and two draw controls. Senior Michaela Neelin (Henrietta, N.Y., Rush Henrietta) finished with a goal and six ground balls.

Sophomore Mikayla Beveridge (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) registered six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) had 10 saves.

Mieley Baran led Fredonia State with one goal, three assists and one ground ball. Jessica Kowalski got the win in goal and totaled 14 saves and two ground balls.

Westminster outshot Fredonia State 28-27 and had a 20-17 advantage in shots on goal. Westminster went 18-of-22 on clears while Fredonia State went 15-of-17.

Up Next:
Westminster will travel to Arlington, Va. next Wednesday to face Marymount. The opening draw from Long Bridge Park is scheduled for 4 p.m.
