Piper claims second-straight PAC weekly award

TRAFFORD, Pa.--Westminster sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) claimed her second-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Pitcher of the Week award Monday afternoon.

Piper was a three-time PAC Pitcher of the Week last spring.

Piper went 2-0 with a save last week for the 4-0 Titans. She fired a two-hit, 11-strikeout shutout in Wednesday's 3-0 game one win over Chatham before allowing one run (earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts in Sunday's 3-1 game one victory over Hiram. Piper got the final two outs of Sunday's 3-0 game two win to secure her second save of the year. In the win over Chatham, she retired 16-straight batters before Kyla Milne's double in the sixth. Piper has struck out 10 or more batters three times this year. She fanned 20 batters in a combined 14.2 innings last week.

Piper's 71 strikeouts lead the PAC this season. She has won six-straight starts (6-2) and owns a 1.93 earned-run average (ERA).

Up next:
Westminster (11-5, 6-0 PAC) is scheduled to travel to Latrobe Tuesday to take on Saint Vincent. The opening pitch of the league doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
