Westminster takes a pair at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team earned a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep at Saint Vincent Sunday afternoon, scoring a 12-2 game one win and a 6-0 shutout victory in game two. Senior Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) highlighted Sunday's sweep by firing a one-hit shutout with a career-high seven strikeouts in the nightcap. 

Westminster, winners of eight straight, improved to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in the PAC. 

Game 1: Westminster 12, Saint Vincent 2
Junior Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) won his second-straight start to improve to 3-0 this season, allowing one run (earned) on four hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. 

Westminster pounded out 16 hits in the game one win. Sophomore Aaron Jones (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius) went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. It was his third three-hit game of the year. Jones led off the fourth inning with his second home run this season. Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Junior Nate Demchak (Monroeville, Pa., Gateway) went 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs, three runs scored a two stolen bases. 

Game 2: Westminster 6, Saint Vincent 0
Reed retired 14 straight batters after Lane Golkosky's first inning, one-out single. He finished the game retiring 12 straight. It was Reed's second win this season. 

Sophomore Ian Temple (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Denchak was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Junior Conner Adams (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) went 2-for-4 with a double while Jones was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. 

Up next:
Westminster hosts Penn State Behrend (12-5) Monday. The opening pitch of the single, nine-inning game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday's game is a Lawrence Country Community Action Partnership (LCCAP) Father Figure Celebration Game.
