Westminster women win at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster women's golf team opened its spring season Thursday afternoon by claiming the team title at the Grove City Spring Invitational.

The 10-team event was held at the Grove City Country Club. Westminster won with a combined team score of 335, outpacing second-place Seton Hill by nine (344). Grove City was third (356). Westminster's 'B' team finished fifth (385).

Senior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) finished as the runner-up with a nine-over 81. Junior Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) tied for third with an 82. Sophomore Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) was eighth with an 85. Senior Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) tied for 10th with an 87 while freshman CeCe Morgan (Fairview, Pa., Cathedral Prep) finished 12th (89).

Freshmen Brooke Hart (Meadville, Pa., Meadville) paced the 'B' team, finishing tied for 14th (90). Freshman Paige Ponteous (Butler, Pa., Butler) tied for 17th (93) and junior Taylor Temple (Butler, Pa., Butler) finished in a three-way tie for 23rd (97). Freshman Madey Myers (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) tied for 40th (105).

Up next:
Westminster will compete in the Pennsylvania Classic Saturday and Sunday. Hosted by Penn State Altoona, the two-day event will be contested on the Penn State White Course in State College.
