Westminster shuts out Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster women's lacrosse team rolled to a 23-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Geneva Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex, as senior Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) set the program's all-time record in caused turnovers and four players recorded hat tricks.

It was the program's first shutout since an 18-0 win at Waynesburg on April 10, 2018.

Cespedes finished with six ground balls and three caused turnovers, giving her 113 in 57 career games played. She surpassed the previous program high of 112, which was held by current head coach Bria Braddock (2017-20). Cespedes added two goals, an assist and four draw controls.

Senior Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) reached 100 career ground balls on Saturday after finishing with a career-high eight. She added three goals, two assists and a caused turnover. Freshman Kaylin Henry (Martinsburg, W.Va., Martinsburg) totaled two goals, two assists, three ground balls and six draw controls while freshman Aleksa Lobas (Justice, Ill., Nazareth Academy) added one goal, three assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Senior Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) finished with six points on three goals and three assists while graduate student Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) added three goals, three ground balls and two draw controls. Sophomore Allyssa Anstis (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) chipped in with three goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Mikayla Beveridge (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) and freshmen Ava Dreher (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) and Mady Warner (Concord Township, Ohio, Riverside) netted their first career goals. Warner added four ground balls and a caused turnover while Beveridge added an assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Junior Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) and freshman Meadow McDonald (Chardon, Ohio, Chardon) each played a half in net.

Westminster outshot Geneva 49-1 and had a 32-0 shots on goal advantage.

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Latrobe Wednesday to take on Saint Vincent. The opening draw from UPMC Field is set for 7 p.m.
