Tierney nets overtime game-winner at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va.--Junior Grady Tierney (Clear Lake Shores, Texas, Houston Christian) scored with under two minutes left in overtime to propel the Westminster men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory at Marymount Saturday afternoon. It was the Titans' second-straight overtime win.

Westminster improved to 3-4 with the win. Marymount fell to 3-6.

Freshman Brendan Robinson (Gainesville, Va., Gainesville) finished with five points, totaling three goals and a pair of assists. Senior Kyler Nigliazzo (Montgomery, Texas, Magnolia West) had four points on three goals and an assist. He assisted on Tierney's game-winner. Senior Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) added one goal, two assists, three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Senior Shawn Wooles (Hampton, N.H., Winnacunnet) had four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) finished with four saves in the win.

James Elko led Marymount with three goals and three assists.

Westminster, leading 5-2 after one quarter, carried an 8-6 lead into the half. Robinson and Nigliazzo had three first half goals apiece. Marymount outscored Westminster 5-1 in the third to snag an 11-9 lead going into the fourth. Elko scored the final three goals of the third.

Sophomore Paul DiPasquale (Woodbine, Md., Glenelg) scored off a Robinson assist with just under seven minutes remaining to cut the Marymount lead to one, 11-10, before sophomore Jake Spiritoso (Magnolia, N.J., Sterling) found the back of the net with 2:51 left to tie the game at 11-all.

Marymount finished with a 42-31 advantage in shots while Westminster had a 20-15 edge in shots on goal. The Titans were successful on 24-of-30 clear attempts.

Up next:
Westminster will host Albright Wednesday night for its annual Morgan's Message Dedication Game. The opening faceoff from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
