Westminster falls to visiting Chatham

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster dropped a 60-51 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) decision to Chatham Saturday afternoon. 

Westminster (7-12, 4-6 PAC) sophomore Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) matched her season high with 15 points in her first start of the year. She added five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Junior Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Katie Grexa (Hartford, Ohio, Badger) had six points and 13 rebounds, her third game this season pulling down double-digit rebounds. She added four assists and two blocks. freshman Bella Calcamuggio (Sylvania, Ohio, Notre Dame) finished with eight points, five rebounds and three assists. 

Hannah Stephanites led Chatham (13-6, 6-4 PAC) with 16 points. Madison Nereu finished with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. 

Down by nine, 30-21, at the half, Westminster used an early 7-0 third quarter scoring run to pull to within one, 32-31, on a Calcamuggio three-point field field goal with 7:28 to go. Syka's three-pointer with under a minute to go in the quarter cut Chatham's lead to one, 40-39, going into the fourth. The Cougars netted the first seven points in the final quarter to go up eight, 47-49, with 7:35 remaining. Chatham pushed its fourth quarter lead to as many as 12 on its way to the nine-point road win. 

Westminster finished the game with a 20-9 edge in bench points. Chatham managed a slim 42-41 edge on the glass.

Westminster hosts Allegheny (9-10, 6-4 PAC) Wednesday. Tipoff from Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Gators suffered an 88-61 loss at Bethany Saturday.
