Westminster dealt opening-round loss by Allegheny

WASHINGTON, Pa.--Westminster College suffered a 4-1 loss to Allegheny College on the opening day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Baseball Championship Tournament Wednesday evening.

All games are being played at Washington & Jefferson College's Ross Memorial Park. 

Allegheny, the tournament's No. 3 seed, improved to 22-16. The Gators advance to take on No. 2 Grove City College, 10-3 winners against No. 5 Saint Vincent College, Thursday at 6 p.m. Westminster, the No. 4 seed, fell to 16-21. The Titans will face top-seeded W&J, a 7-1 winner over No. 6 Thiel College, Thursday at 2:30 p.m. 

Allegheny's JD Robinson drove in the game's first run, plating William Wolff with an RBI base hit to center in the home half of the first inning. 

Sophomore third baseman Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) evened the game at 1-all in the sixth, delivering a two-out, RBI double that scored senior leftfielder Nico Hall (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley), who reached on an error to lead off the inning.  

Alejandro Samayoa's one-out, two-run single keyed Allegheny's three-run sixth. 

Graduate right-hander Kolton Banfi (Harrisville, Pa., Franklin) fell to 5-1, giving up four runs (3 earned) on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout. Wednesday was his fourth complete game this year. Graduate second baseman Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) went 3-for-4. It was his fifth game of the year with at least three hits. Senior shortstop Braeden Campbell's (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) base hit in the first extended his current hitting streak to 16 games. 

Matt Jennings earned the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed one run (unearned) on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Harrison Ashley snagged his first save of the year, giving up a hit and striking out one in 2.0 innings. Wolff finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Jennings went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
