Westminster men third at Pennsylvania Classic

Marnik 4th, Batdorff 13th in 94-player field

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf program posted a third-place finish at the Pennsylvania Classic with a team score of 592, following up Saturday's round of 303 with a 289 on Sunday. The two-day tournament, presented by the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, was played at Penn State University's Blue Course. 

Allegheny College won the team title with a two-day score of 581 (292-289). Washington & Jefferson College was second with a team score of 591 (303-288). 

Allegheny's Carter Hassenplug and Penn State Altoona's Peter Nusbaum finished tied atop the 94-player leaderboard. Both players fired a four-under, two-round score of 140. The two matched up in a sudden death playoff for the individual title, with Hassenplug coming out on top. Both players parred the first hole (No. 14) while on the second playoff hole (No. 18), Hasselplug made birdie while Nusbaum made par.

Senior Logan Marnik (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) finished in fourth place after shooting an even-par, two-round score of 144. He was tied for sixth place after round one with a one-over 73. Marnik carded a one-under 71 during Sunday's round. 

Senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) finished in a four-way tie for 13th place after shooting a four-over 148. He shot a three-over 75 Saturday and a one-over 73 on Sunday. Senior Joe Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline) and sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) were two of the eight players to tie for 19th after posting two-round scores of 150. Trudeau fired a one-over, second round 73 after turning in a five-over 77 on Saturday. Hager followed up Saturday's six-over 78 with an even-par 72 on Sunday. Graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy) rounded out Westminster's five-player squad, tying for 17th with a 155 (79-76). 

Up Next:
Westminster will be back in action next Sunday and Monday, April 6-7 at the Infiniti Classic, hosted by Ohio Northern University. Sunday's round will be played at the Stonewater Golf Club in Highland Heights, Ohio while Monday's round will be played at Little Mountain Country Club in Painesville, Ohio.
