Westminster men claim team title at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf program opened the spring portion of its schedule Thursday by winning the team title at Grove City College's McBride-Behringer-Allen "MBA" Invitational.

The 14-team event was played at the Grove City Country Club. Westminster's "A" team topped the team leaderboard with a combined 303. Host Grove City was second with a 306. Westminster's "B" team tied for fifth with a 312.

Senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) tied for fifth in the 80-player field with a three-over 75.

The Titans had four players tie for eighth. Seniors Joseph Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline), Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) and Peter Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny), along with graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy), all shot four-over 76's.

Trudeau, Peter Canovali and Haseyama represented the Titans' "A" team, while Portland Canovali headlined the "B" team.

Senior Logan Marnik (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) and sophomore Nathan Feltmeyer (Waterford, Pa., Fort Le Boeuf), members of the "B" team, tied for 15th with five-over 77's. Sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton), a part of the "A" lineup, tied for 20th with a six-over 78.

Sophomore Jonathan Haddox (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) and junior Joshua Furman (Jefferson, Ohio, Jefferson) tied for 40th and 45th, respectively, to round out the "B" teams' scoring five. Haddox shot an 82 while Furman finished with an 84.

Up Next:
Westminster is scheduled to participate in the Pennsylvania Classic this Saturday and Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course in State College.
