Titans split on Monday

BARTOW, Fla.--The Westminster College softball program posted its second split of the season Monday afternoon at THE Spring Games, earning an 8-5 come-from-behind victory over Hood College before falling 12-2 in five innings to Gettysburg College at the Bartow Sports Complex.

Tuesday, Westminster is scheduled to face St. Mary's College (Ind.) at 9 a.m. and Ursinus College at 11:15 a.m. at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Fla. 

Game 1
Even at one apiece after two innings, Hood raced out to a 5-1 lead with a four-run third. Five-straight batters reached to begin the sixth before sophomore second baseman Emily Gerthung (New Middletown, Ohio, Springfield Local) tied the game at five-all with an RBI groundout. With two outs in the seventh, freshman first baseman Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) hit a three-run home run to deliver the eventual game-sealing scores. 

Sophomore Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) got the win in the circle in relief of sophomore starter Grace Kissick (Portersville, Pa., Laurel). Davis allowed just four hits and struck out three in 4.0 innings. Kissick gave up five runs (3 earned) on six hits with a pair of walks in 3.0 innings. 

Westminster pounded out 11 hits in the win. Junior right fielder Kelly Troup (Mogadore, Ohio, Field), Jordan and junior third baseman Jenna Boneysteele (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) had three hits each. Troup was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Jordan went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, five RBIs and a run scored while Boneysteele was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Senior designated player Mia Meholick (DuBois, Pa., DuBois Central Catholic) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Kara Heidlauf went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Rebecca Gottleib was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and a walk for Hood. Gottleib took the loss, allowing eight runs (7 earned) on 11 hits with a walk and six strikeouts. 

Game 2
Gettysburg, fueled by a four-run first and seven-run third, cruised to the run-rule win in five. 

Freshman Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) was saddled with the loss, allowing 10 runs (6 earned) on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout in 2.1 innings. Jordan was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
