Women's lacrosse improves to 3-0 with win over Wilson

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program is off to a 3-0 start for the first time in program history after earning a 14-7 win over Wilson College Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster led 8-1 at halftime behind three first half goals by junior attack Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell). Freshman midfielder Ava Kessler's (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) goal with just under five minutes to go in the third stretched the Titans' lead to 10, 12-2, and senior midfielder Felicia Young's (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) third score of the game a minute-and-a-half later pushed the lead to 13-2. Wilson, behind Sage Lague's three-goal barrage and woman-up goals from Sadie Fike and Emily Young, scored five straight to pull to within six, 13-7. Junior attack Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) netted her third score of the game with 18 seconds left.

Wenzel, Ravazza and Young scored three goals apiece. They are the first trio in program history to score three goals each in a game. Wenzel added one assist and two ground balls. Ravazza also had three assists, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control while Young added one ground ball, two caused turnovers and three draw controls.

Kessler finished with two goals, an assist, four ground balls and seven draw controls. Junior defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) had six ground balls and six caused turnovers. Senior defender Shea O'Donnell (Hatfield, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) chipped in with five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
