Westminster women suffer road loss

ADA, Ohio--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program was dealt an 18-8 loss by Ohio Northern University Saturday afternoon at Dial-Robertson Stadium. 

Ohio Northern improved to 3-2 with the win. Westminster fell to 3-1. 

Junior midfielder Michaela Neelin (Henrietta, N.Y., Rush Henrietta) registered her first four-point game with Westminster, finishing with four goals. Freshman midfielder Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) had two goals and three ground balls while finishing with career highs in caused turnovers, with four, and draw controls, with eight. Junior attack Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) added one goal and one assist while senior midfielder Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) had one goal and four draw controls. Junior defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) finished with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. 

Keaghan Burden led ONU with eight points on three goals and five assists. Emma Hoersten had seven points on five goals and two assists. Emma LoGiudice finished with five ground balls and a caused turnover. Kara Fox turned away 12 shots in three quarters. 

The Polar Bears jumped out to a 6-3 lead, keyed by three Mackenzie Miller goals, after one quarter and led 10-5 at halftime. Ohio Northern outscored Westminster 5-0 in the third quarter to take a 10-goal lead into the fourth. Neelin scored three of her four goals in the final quarter. 

Westminster finished with a 30-29 edge in shots, putting 23 on goal, and had a 17-10 advantage in draw controls.

Westminster will travel to Greensboro College Thursday. The opening draw from Pride Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
