McClain third in 500 freestyle

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster College sophomore Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) finished third in the 500 freestyle at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming and Diving Championships for a second-straight year Thursday night. 

McClain registered a season-best time of 5 minutes, 22.80 seconds in the finals, shaving nearly six seconds off of her time in Thursday morning's preliminaries. Senior Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa., Carlynton) finished fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.03. She was eighth in the event in 2023 and fifth in 2024.

Seniors Isabella Barnabei (Oakland, N.J., Indian Hills) and Sara Swanson (Avondale, Ariz., Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS)) finished 10th (2:21.95) and 16th (2:28.95), respectively, in the 200 IM. Sophomore Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) was 13th in the 500 freestyle (5:47.22) while sophomore Preslie Bodine (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) was 15th in the 50 freestyle (27.68). 

Westminster's 400 medley "A" relay, made up of Swanson, Bodine, Turner and Barnabei, finished sixth with a time of 4:28.95. 

Through 14 events Westminster is currently in third place with 167 points. Host Grove City leads the eight-team field with 335 points. Saint Vincent College in second with 261.

Seven events will be decided during Friday evening's finals, which scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
