Westminster falls to Albion

WESTERVILLE, Ohio--The Westminster College men's basketball team was dealt an 83-63 loss by Albion Monday night at Otterbein's Smokey Ballenger Classic. 

Albion registered a 90-60 win over Westminster on the opening night of the Buzz Ridl Classic in New Wilmington on Nov. 14. 

Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) paced the Titans with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. He added four rebounds and four assists. It was Harrell's second game this season scoring 20 or more points. Seniors Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) and Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) scored eight points apiece. 

Kameron Mayes finished with 19 points and six rebounds to lead four double digit scorers for Albion. 

Westminster (5-4) trailed by 21, 44-23, at the half. Albion (6-4) used a 12-0 run late to stretch a 12-point lead, 28-16, into a 24-point advantage, 40-16, with just over two minutes to go. Harrell scored 10 first half points, going 3-of-6 from the field. Albion shot 57.6 percent (19-31) from the floor in the first half. Kurtis Rhodes and Mayes finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, in first 20 minutes. 

Albion scored the first seven points of the second, opening up a 28-point lead, 51-23, just over two minutes into the half. 

The Britons finished shooting 57.6 percent (34-59) from the field. The Titans went 24-of-60 (.400) from the floor. Albion scored 26 points off 14 Westminster turnovers and had a 52-34 edge in points scored in the paint. 

Up next:
Westminster will face host Otterbein (9-2) Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Cardinals scored an 88-51 win over Allegheny Monday afternoon.
