Goode throws for 324 yards, four touchdowns in 48-6 Homecoming triumph

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Freshman Quentin Goode (Aliquippa, Pa., Aliquippa), making his first career start, completed 23-of-29 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Westminster College football team to a 48-6 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field inside Harold Burry Stadium.

Westminster, celebrating its Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the PAC. It was the Titans' fifth-straight Homecoming triumph.

Goode's 324 passing yards were the most in a game since Cole Konieczka threw for 327 in a 42-14 win over Allegheny on Sept. 17, 2022.

Thiel capped a 13-play, 73-yard drive on its opening offensive possession with Keller Herzberger's one-yard touchdown run, taking a 6-0 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in first. Westminster held the Tomcats' offense to just 64 yards throughout the remainder of the game.

Sophomore Brite Cannon (Parkland, Fla., Monarch) hauled in five catches for 167 yards and caught three of Goode's four touchdowns. He scored on a 29-yard reception in the first quarter before adding back-to-back touchdowns in the third: a 74-yard grab with just over 13 minutes to go and a 56-yard catch just over three minutes later. Cannon's 167 yards were the most in a game since Ty Eilam's 10-catch, 172-yard, two-touchdown effort in 23-18 win at Washington & Jefferson on Oct. 23, 2021.

Junior Brock Covell (Titusville, Pa., Titusville) caught two passes for 11 yards, which included a four-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left in the second that stretched the Titans' lead to 27-6 heading into the break. It was the first touchdown grab of his career. Freshman Lawrence Grayson (Washington, D.C., Paul Laurence Dunbar) snagged four catches for 56 yards while classmate Kristian Bailey (Hollywood, Fla., Hollywood Hills) added three catches for 23 yards. Senior Taite Beachy (Moon Township, Pa., Moon) finished with two catches for 16 yards, extending his consecutive games streak with at least one catch to 26.

Junior Clayton Cannon (Parkland, Fla., Marjory Stoneman Douglas) rushed eight times for 58 yards and scored on a 23-yard run with just under seven minutes to play in the second quarter. Senior Demere White (Manalapan, N.J., DePaul Catholic) ran four times for 28 yards and had a 10-yard touchdown run with just under nine minutes to play in the fourth. He added five catches for 33 yards. Freshman Jaxon Covell (Titusville, Pa., Titusville) had five carries for 30 yards.

Freshman Gianni DiSora (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper St. Clair) returned a Landen Jackson second quarter punt 83 yards for a touchdown. It is the longest punt return for a score in the league this season.

Sophomore Wes Donner (Bastrop, Texas, Bastrop) led the Titan defensive effort with six tackles (2 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. It was his fourth sack of the year. Senior Dylan Sleva (McDonald, Pa., Moon) recorded four stops (2 solo) while senior Jean Garry Joseph (North Miami, Fla., Ebenezer Christian) and junior Dante Currie (Sharon, Pa., Sharon) added a half-sack each.

Westminster outgained Thiel 463-137, holding the Tomcats to nine rushing yars. Westminster also limited Thiel to just 2-of-13 (0.154) on third downs.

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Mercer County next Saturday to take on rival Grove City (4-2, 3-1 PAC), a 42-6 winner at Allegheny Saturday evening. Kickoff from Robert E. Thorn Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
