Westminster climbs into fourth after fall rounds of PAC Championships

WARREN, Ohio--Westminster College is currently tied for fourth place after the first two rounds of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Golf Championships. 

The PAC's 36-hole fall event was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio Monday and Tuesday. The men completed a pair of rounds at Avalon Lakes in Warren.

Allegheny, winners of two-straight PAC titles, leads the 10-team field with a two-day score of 600 (300-300). Washington & Jefferson is in second place with a 609 (307-302) and Grove City is in third with a 614 (303-311). Westminster is tied with Thiel for fourth with a 626. The Titans followed Monday's 314 with a a second round 312. 

Grove City's Luke Gronbeck captured fall medalist honors with a two-round score of 139 (67-72). Allegheny's Christopher Hoffman is currently in second place with a 145 (73-72).

Junior Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) is tied for third with W&J's Matthew Morelli following a two-round score of 146 (72-74). Freshman Brody Pirt (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) sits in a five-way tie for 18th with a two round score of 158 (81-77) while freshman Aydan Gross (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant ) is tied with Geneva's Ryan Edwards for 23rd after his two-day total of 159 (81-78). Senior Jonathan Haddox (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) is in a four-way tie for 30th (166, 80-86) and senior Joshua Furman (Jefferson, Ohio, Jefferson) is tied with six others for 36th (168, 85-83).

This year's PAC Championships features a 72-hole stroke play event, beginning with 36 holes played this fall and another 36 holes played Friday-Saturday, April 25-26 at Mill Creek Metroparks and the Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio. The men will play two rounds on the South Course in April. 

The combined 72-hole team totals determine PAC team champion and winner of the league's automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, which are scheduled for May 12-15 at the Mission Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
