Westminster competes at Carnegie Mellon Invitational

CLINTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's cross country team competed in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday morning held at Youthtowne in Allegheny County. 

Ashland claimed the team title at the 19-team, eight-kilometer event, finishing with 20 points. Ashland's Nate Slater won the individual title after posting a time of 24 minutes, 24.50 seconds. Carnegie Mellon was second with 95 points and West Virginia Wesleyan was third with 103 points. Westminster finished 18th with 547 points. 

Freshman Nicholas Bender (New Castle, Pa., Neshannock) was 88th with a time of 27:55.90 while classmate Phillip Silvis (Harmony, Pa., Seneca Valley) finished 102nd with a time of 28:45.00. Freshman Dillon Brunner (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper Saint Clair) was 114th (31:03.50), freshman Nathaniel Gannoe (Erie, Pa., Cathedral Prep) finished 121st (32:15.40), junior Dennis Jones (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex) was 122nd (32:15.40) and senior Justin Redilla (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) finished 123rd (32:22.90). 

Up Next:
Westminster will compete at Oberlin's Inter-Regional Rumble next Saturday. The eight-kilometer meet, scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m., will be contested at the North Field Cross Country Course.
