Titans clipped on road

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College women's basketball team suffered a 55-47 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss at rival Grove City College Wednesday evening. 

Grove City upped its season record to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in the PAC. It was Grove City's fifth-straight win in the series. Westminster fell to 2-15 overall and 2-10 in the league. 

Freshman guard Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) matched her career high with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. She added five rebounds. Sophomore forward Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) had 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting while adding a pair of rebounds. Senior forward Emily Hess (Edinboro, Pa., General McLane) added eight points on 4-of-6 shooting to go along with nine rebounds. 

Emma Ulmer paced Grove City with 10 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists. 

Both offenses started fast, and after six lead changes, Westminster grabbed a 14-11 lead going into the second. Cano scored six of her 11 points in the opening quarter. Westminster maintained the lead throughout the entire second quarter, stretching it as many as eight before going into halftime up 27-21. Syka scored nine first half points on 4-of-9 shooting. She added four rebounds in the opening half. Cano was 3-of-5 from the field for eight first half points. 

Grove City managed to cut Westminster's lead down to just three, 39-36, after three. A 12-0 run midway through the fourth gave the Wolverines a 50-43 lead with just over three-and-a-half minutes remaining. Ulmer and Mara Polczynski each had four during the stretch. Grove City outscored Westminster 19-8 in the fourth. 

Westminster went 10-for-19 from the free throw line while Grove City finished 4-of-9 from the line. Westminster and Grove City totaled 47 rebounds apiece, with the Wolverines registering 17 offensive boards.
